Local Learning Plan Project

The aim of this project was to provide a contemporary strategic response to post 16 Education, Learning and Employment. The CLES report, produced in May 2003, identified the need for a more strategic and collaborative approach to overcome the barriers facing post 16 learners, which is what this study has endeavoured to achieve.

Subsequent to the preparation of the previous learning plan, the Nottingham City Council ward boundaries were changed and the 2001 Census figures became available. It was therefore necessary to re-visit the issues and actions relating to post 16 Education, Learning and Employment, which arose from the first plan, this time according to the new ward boundaries and the new needs.

The Area Learning Facilitator under the guidance of the Local Learning Partnership collected the data. The area-wide task group and the Greater Nottingham Learning Partnership also played a particular role in this data collection. This new Local Learning Plan follows the guidelines set out by toolkit as designed by Chimera Consulting and was adapted by the Greater Nottingham Learning Partnership/Area Learning Team staff members. The format was designed to produce a concise common format for Learning Plans across the City of Nottingham.

The Learning Partners hope that this Plan, and the process through which it was developed, will help to improve and extend the services available to those in Area 1, the learners, potential learners, job seekers and those who wish to progress their employment status. This will include mainly people who belong to hard to reach groups, and those who face exclusion. It is hoped that this will be achieved through co-ordinating learning activity, removing barriers to learning and influencing the delivery of mainstream services.
