Healthy Living Centre
Over 130 people turned out on Monday 3rd October 2005 to see the grand opening of the Healthy Living centre on Bulwell Hall Estate. This brand new centre has only been open for a few months but has already made a huge impact on the estate, providing services to improve the health of the residents specifically on Bulwell hall estate, but also people in the North Bulwell area.
The Opening Ceremony showed the true impact the centre is having and will have in the future.
Everyone arrived at around 11.30, residents, councillors and MP’s all mixing together, an unusual sight to be seen. This ceremony started off with Peter Linford the chair of Bulwell Vision formally welcoming everybody, this was shortly followed by the Steel band from Trinity RC School, Aspley, entertaining the guests with a few popular numbers.
Mick McGrath, the East Midlands regional officer for the Big Lottery Fund spoke to the audience about how the big lottery fund has contributed to the building of the centre and how the fund is supporting many innovative projects in Nottingham and the around the East Midlands.
Dr Chris Packham, the director of Public Health for the Nottingham City Primary Care Trust, addressed the audience and praised the project and the partnership work which he considered to be very important in delivering joined up services and meeting the health needs of the local community.
Liz Asher, Partnership Development Manager outlined the history of the project. How it was initiated, progresssed and some of the issue that had arisen and had been resovled during the Healthy Living Centres development. She expressed her personal thanks to all involved in making this project happen. She then invited Graham Allan, MP, to unveil the plaque. Graham, in his key notes speech, stressed the continuation of partnership working and the commitment of all the agencies to making the centre a successful focal point for Bulwell Hall. He also drew attention to the future potential of this work and committed his full support to its success.
